Dilbert? The Office?

… Guess again, it’s worklife @ NBCU:

Last week I helped scope out a project that may take up to 500+ man-hours. The current system in production actually works. But it spits out a report in 2 pages, instead of 1, which apparently is reason enough for our users to contemplate building an entirely new system. Seriously.

Consultant: “The users of that system said it wasn’t fully meeting their needs.
Manager: “We already bought it, it’s already implemented at one of our business units, we need to be consistent.
Consultant: “So you’re saying we should run our businesses sub-optimally across the board, as long as we’re consistent?

We on the IT side wanted to be prepared for a meeting with our business users to make sure the hour was well spent instead of the typical roundtable discussions that seem to lead… nowhere. The IT team had a pre-meeting. I sent out the agenda the day before. Yet, the meeting began with a user, who printed out the agenda beforehand, pointed to the part titled “Purpose of Meeting”, and stated “This isn’t what we wanted to talk about.”

Yes, work continues to keep me amused and busy.

Thank goodness I’ve got other things going on in my life to keep from going insane.

…Well, I guess it depends on your definition of “insane.”

Being Alfred & Michelle’s wedding coordinator was pretty crazy, but it was fun spending some QT with my Hell-A family.

And yes, my 2-day adventure in Detroit was jam-packed (even packed with a bit o’drama)… though I felt damn old being around some new school candy raver kids, it was great running around with my Chitown pals, getting wired off Sparks and checking out some amazing sets - my fave, of course, being Mr. Kenny Larkin’s 2-hr performance.

I wish I could have joined you in Detroit, Jamie. I guess I have to keep in touch if we are to dance together again.
