I did it!
Last night after 5 minutes of furiously trying to pry a 3-month-old bottle of pasta sauce open, I popped the lid off right on my last attempt before giving up…
…& then I made me, myself & I some spaghetti and “meatless meatballs“.
And tonight, I fixed the wiring of my doorbell transformer, submitted my March Madness picks, & drank a bottle of wine while doing my toenails and watching American Idol (does anyone else think this year is pretty weak compared to ‘06? Doolittle & Kiki are my top picks).
I’ve learned how to deal with being a minority in a male-dominated world throughout my college & professional careers. And over the past year, I’ve…
- learned how to use a drill and a stud-finder;
- realized that a glass of Scotch on the Rocks is a great alternative to a few shots of Maker’s Marks;
- struggled with carrying a 40-pound box of kitty litter up the stairs;
- unclogged my toilet without calling a plumber;
- haggled with the car maintenance technician on prices for servicing my car;
- upgraded my personal home toolkit;
- assembled several pieces of furniture, with the help of other girl friends (thanks Christie!);
- figured out who in my network could help when I couldn’t do it myself and who to hire if that didn’t work out.
Being a single woman nearing 30 isn’t the greatest feeling in the world, but Dammit! no matter how frustrating it is, I know I’ve got it in me to survive.

I think your new goals for 2007 should be:
Learning how to chew and spit tobacco
Signing up for boxing lessons
Tricking out your car with neon
Nice stuff

That’s right, girl. Keep up the good work. I’ll have to stop by soon to check everything out. I’m sure things look a lot different. I’m proud of you, Jamie. One day at a time. That’s all you (we) can do, right?
I know I don’t have to say this, but have a GREAT time on your trip. Enjoy every moment of it. You’ve waited a long time for this & it’s well deserved.
Be safe and take lots of pictures!

This is the first time I’ve watched American Idol since the beginning (more or less, whatever I can catch). Except for Kiki and Doolittle, everyone else sucks. Which means that Kiki and Doo will get voted out before the finals giving us the weakest American Idol winner ever.
Each little thing you learn makes you stronger and more confident to overcome the next obstacle. Looks like you’ve had a busy year! You know a lot of stuff that many of the guys I know don’t know how to do!

[…] Perhaps, I should take back my “I did it!” blog. […]
