V-Day

I’m not one to really celebrate V-Day, even when I have been “taken”, but this year was a little different…

I got nasty sick late Tuesday afternoon at work but still made it over to Momo’s to “celebrate” with my PIC. I had my gal pal, sappy movie, Momo’s cuddle blanket, & yummy cupcakes (thanks Alize!)… what else does a chick need?

I spent the rest of the week trying to recover in time for AWBW’s annual V-Day event, an event that is part of the global V-Day campaign.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery.

I joined a group of 50 or so women (and 2 guys, bless their souls!) on the V-Day bus, where we toasted to AWBW & trekked down to USC to eat dinner & watch a USC production of the Vagina Monologues. I’d seen the Monologues a few years back in Chitown, & as I watched it a second time, this time by a group of 8 talented college students, I felt inspired, outraged, joy, madness… all in 2 hours.

I learned about Comfort Women (a new addition to the Monologues), was reminded about the different sexual moans (from a WASP moan to a Jewish moan to a… triple orgasm!), did a Cunt cheer, & discovered a very interesting “Happy Vagina Fact”, which the audience chanted several times throughout the production:

The clitoris is pure in purpose. It is the only organ in the body designed purely for pleasure. The clitoris is simply a bundle of nerves: 8,000 nerve fibers, to be precise. That’s a higher concentration of nerve fibers than is found anywhere else in the male or female body, including the fingertips, lips, and tongue, and it is twice, twice, twice the number in the penis!

–From “Woman: An Intimate Geography”, by Natalie Angier

I didn’t win the coveted auction item “Vagina Pleasing Package”, but all in all, ’twas a fantastic night.

So there ya have it… my V-Day wasn’t so bad for being single.

…then again, my neighbor wasn’t around…
