My trips to Chicago are always crazy, and my time spent with friends during visits are typically in groups, rather than 1-on-1.

My good friend Dave from Chicago stopped by for a weekend visit, and it was nice to play catchup with him. Despite my frequent visits to Chicago, it’s been a long time since we’ve had QT.

Of course, we talked about relationships… and he sent me a helpful (albeit cheesy) forward.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can’t make them stay.

Let them go.

And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the
story is over.

And you’ve got to know when people’s part in your story is over so that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead.

You’ve got to know when it’s dead.

You’ve got to know when it’s over.

Wow… Dead.

So harsh.

Yet true.

The eternal optimist in me…
Dead.

OK, well maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I sure do have my guard up.

Don’t get me wrong, although I was devastated 6 months ago after the conclusion of yet another failed relationship, being single for the first time in over 6 years is… well…

Actually fun!

But, I’ve definitely built up some sort of wall… One big lesson learned is even the “good men” could surprise you…

Ok, ok, maybe I’m a little bitter. I guess I still have quite a bit of healing to do. Nothing a yoga class or a glass of fine wine can’t fix.

My life is way different than I pictured it would be at this age… yet ‘07 is off to a great start. I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long while.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s because…

I’ve finally let go.
