Vicki Phillips (1968 - 2006)
One of Vicki’s final wishes was to put together a book of memories compiled by friends & family for her young daughters.
The last time I saw her was Memorial Day weekend of 2005. I met her adorable daughters Maddy & Claire & spent some time talking with her about her struggles with cancer. I remember my heart filling with admiration at her courage, strength, and optimism.
Vicki lost her battle to cancer in August of this year. I was unable to attend her funeral as I was standing up in a wedding in Chicago on the same day. I wish I could have attended the service to celebrate her life, but I was thinking of her as I watched my friends recite their vows, wishing them the same love & strength I saw in Vicki & her husband Iain.
This is a few months late, but I thought of my friend’s recent passing and the difficult time her family must be going through over the holidays.
Here’s to you, Vicki…
*****
Vicki started working at Business Logic Corporation a few weeks after I did, also as a programmer.
It wasn’t long before the executive team realized her true potential and she was quickly promoted to a management position.
During my last few months at BLC, Vicki was my manager. I enjoyed our conversations about wine, dining out, and good books. What a joy to be around her laughter and contagious smile, especially during stressful tight deadlines & late work nights.
Professionally, I looked to her as a mentor; personally, I admired her strong, beautiful spirit.
Vicki, may your kindred spirit shine through the hearts of your daughters. Rest in peace, friend.
