Arsenal, Ashes, & Art in the Afternoon
Last week was insane. Between my paid work, my volunteer work, & escrow (Goodbye Santa Monica, Hello SF Valley - I am officially going through escrow), I almost lost it.
I was in Great Need of a Relaxing Weekend.
I started the weekend by celebrating Cinco de Mayo at a chill, loungey bar on the Westside, the Arsenal. It was nice to meet some of G.’s new co-workers & even better to have found a new hangout so close to my apartment. Hmmm, guess I only have a month or two to enjoy it before I move.
J$ drove up from Pacific Beach on Saturday afternoon for a girls only weekend. What better to relax me than some J&J quality time?
Shortly after Jenny arrived, we went to check out the highly acclaimed Ashes and Snow Exhibit on the Santa Monica Pier.
Human & animals living in harmony, at peace with themselves & each other.
It was like nothing I’ve ever seen & exactly what I needed.
“Feather to fire
Fire to blood
Blood to bone
Bone to marrow
Marrow to ashes
Ashes to snow.”
Below are some of my favorite images from the exhibit. Note: They are *not* digitally collaged or superimposed.

After some girly harmless “gossip” over dinner, wine, and - a J&J favorite - Sex & the City marathon, we called it a night. First time we had a weekend together without any real craziness, but it was just as fun. J$ has been a dear friend to me ever since we bonded at the WMC in 2000 & it was so nice to catch up…
On Sunday, after a late brunch at a cute cafe in Santa Monica, we headed over to a big event in my life, Art in the Afternoon. Our arts creations consisted of shrinky dinks & “Love Around the World” paper dolls (mine had stiletto heels, of course). Windows’ 15th Anniversary celebration was a success, & I am so grateful to my friends who came to support the event.
I feel so much lighter, happier, & ready to take on another week. It was The Perfect Weekend.
