A Major Scare

Tuesday morning, I heard the phone ring before 6 a.m. and ignored it. I felt under the weather and worked from home. When I later checked my voicemail, I listened to the message from my sister…

Mama had major chest pains last night, and Auntie took her to the hospital. They don’t think it’s anything serious, but because of her age, they’re keeping her in the hospital for a few days to run some tests.

UGH. It’s when these kinds of things happen that I wish I were back home. I forced myself to not get too worried (yet), so I called my sis to get the scoop.

I spoke with my grandma, who’s 93 years young, and felt better after talking to her. She felt pretty weak but was very positive. It was so cute to hear her excited to get so many phone calls. She has 25 or so grandkids and got a phone call from each one. It’s amazing how little it takes to make such a big difference in a loved one’s life.

Though I make it a habit to call her several times a week, I still worry about her. And though it’s a Great Thing that she wasn’t in the ICU, only ICU patients are allowed to have overnight guests in the hospital. I dunno, the thought of my lola being alone in a hospital makes me queasy.

She left yesterday. Apparently, the pains she experienced were due to major arthritis. The doctors were pretty surprised that it wasn’t heart-related since she’s pretty old. What a RELIEF!

I love you Mama. Get well soon!
