Art in the Afternoon

Mammoth stories and pics to come soon, but tonight I wanted to post an announcement for an upcoming fundraiser to benefit my favorite non-profit, A Window Between Worlds.

Art in the Afternoon is an open house for Windows where guests have a chance to participate in the same arts workshops used at the shelters (food, arts supplies, auction items, and prizes are at the event too!)…

Last year, I left the event feeling so refreshed, carefree, and happy. This year marks Windows’ 15-Year Anniversary, so I hope some of you HelL-A’ers can join me at this special event. For those who can’t afford the tickets, there are also volunteer opps available - let me know if you’re interested.

You can buy tickets online here.

A fantastic family event, Art in the Afternoon gives AWBW supporters a chance to enjoy the creative process hands-on. Come join us for wonderful food, fun, friends and art-making with A Window Between Worlds!

This year’s festival includes special “hands-on” creative art projects and will feature Etan Boritzer, a marvelous children’s author. This day will allow guests to experience the concept of art as a healer, and since it is held at AWBW’s Venice studio, attendees will have a view into where and how AWBW work is generated.

We invite you to join us in providing this special way for domestic violence survivors to express their feelings, build self-confidence, and develop a renewed sense of hope and possibility for the future.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities available for the day of event. We are in need of 40 volunteers to help with set up, clean up, manage the table food, manage crafts / art supplies area, help with arts workshops, etc., on the day of the event. The event is free for volunteers.

A Window Between Worlds
A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using art to help end domestic violence. Through creative expression, battered women and children gain a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become “a window between worlds” for survivors taking steps to change their lives.

Since our founding, AWBW has brought healing art workshops to over 110,000 participants (250,000 women and children participating in an average of 4-5 art workshops each!). Many domestic violence shelters have found AWBW art programs to be among their most effective tools for helping women and children to heal from abuse and begin to transform their lives.
