Looking Back at 2005
Overall, 2005 has been a wonderful year. Hands down the best since I’ve moved to Hell-A.
My year in review:
- I quit smoking. For Good. 6 months and counting, thank you very much… For those of you still struggling, try reading this book.
- I discovered Kundalini Yoga and found my most favorite yoga class right by work. The 2 hours I spend in class ALWAYS makes me feel good, no matter how bad my day has been.
- I started meditating at home. OK, so I’ve yet to make it a daily habit, but at least I started practicing again.
- I finally put up my very own website, something I’ve had on my plate for a long while. Oh, and thanks for reading, I’m averaging a good amount of hits per day!
- I survived my best friend’s wedding, a good friend’s wedding, my brother’s graduation, and a 2 week vacation with several hundred family members in the Philippines. All in May & June. Phew. Talk about a crazy summer.
- I joined the AWBW Donor Development Committee. Being on this Committee reminds me that raising money to help heal one’s spirit is much more important than making money for The Man.
- The rise and fall of Parka. (Sorry, G. We’ll figure something else out.)
- I got promoted at work. So I thought the NBCU merger was painful. I’d never been on an SAP implementation before. Goodbye to Coding Away in my Prison Cell, Hello to Coding for Fun at Home.
And the best thing that’s happened to me this year: I can finally call Los Angeles my home…. for now. It took over 3 1/2 years for me to admit it, but Hell-A has grown on me. And it has everything to do with the people in my life and the change in my attitude towards everything and everyone around me. I’ve made some great friends - too many to list here - and I can no longer complain about the lack of deep conversations, genuine people, & spontaneous invites (thanks Datt-NERD).
I’m in Love: with a wonderful man, with my family, with my friends, and with life.
I won’t burden you with the not-so-great moments. As I reflect on 2005, what’s most important is that I’m continuing to learn from my mistakes and improve myself: physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually.
I’ve got some high hopes for 2006, a few of which I’ll list here:
- RELAX. Live Happy & Stress-Free. Learn not to take things too seriously/personally.
- Never take my loved ones for granted. Find ways to show them I love them.
- Attend yoga at least once a week to strengthen my spiritual well-being.
- Continue to practice meditation. Eventually meditate at least 10 minutes daily.
- Go on the Detox Diet at least twice this year to rid my body of toxins.
- Create and Adhere to a budget. Adhere to being the key words.
- Build management skills in my new role at work.
That’s it for this year, folks. I hope that you all have a safe & happy new year.
Here’s to an even better 2006.
