Small World

One random work day half a year or so ago, a co-worker who I knew by face but not by name approached my desk.

“Hi, I’m Mike Perri. It turns out that we have a mutual friend in common.”

Some may think that one introducing himself in such a manner is strange, but there was something different about this guy. He seemed genuine, easygoing, & friendly, with no hidden agenda. A rare find in this town.

After a few minutes of conversation, we discovered that not only did we both know Regan, but we grew up a few miles from each other in the same Chicago suburb, & attended the same high school AND college. And there we were in the same office several thousand miles from home.

Aha! A fellow Chi’er, THAT’S what was different about this guy.

Apparently, I came up in conversation when Regan ran into Mike at a comedy writing class here in Hell-A. Regan thought it would be a long shot that he would know me after finding out that Mike worked at NBCU (this is a HUGE company), but since Mike’s a manager on the same project as me, he recognized my name.

What a small world indeed.

Tonight, the three of us are finally going to hang out together for dinner and a show at an improv club. A guaranteed good time: 3 former Chitowners wreaking havoc on this city. Buahahahahaha.
