Exhilarating!
I *heart* my stylish new bike. G. and I biked around Ventura all day today. It was such a gorgeous day, and I had a blast.
I felt like I was re-living, er…, living the childhood I never had. Growing up, I was scared of everything… This was mostly because my mom made me scared of everything. My sister almost drowned in our underground pool when she was 2, so my mom refused to let me, my bro or sis do anything that was remotely exciting. (Well, I guess some may call being trampled on by other kids while playing at recess or getting hit in the face while playing dodgeball “exciting.”) We never learned how to swim, and even though we learned how to ride bikes, we could barely leave our driveway without her having a fit.
So, even though I may have been a little wobbly riding around town (I could hear my mom’s voice telling me to be careful while crossing the street on my bike), it was so much fun. We rode through G.’s neighborhood to the bike trail on the beach and on Main St., Ventura’s little shopping area of boutiques, coffee shops, & restaurants. Ventura is a great town for the biker since everything’s pretty centralized. I’m looking forward to doing this more often.
On a side note, I got the lowdown on the Thanksgiving feast back home in Chi from my cousins & siblings. Sounds like everyone bonded… I miss you guys… I celebrated with you in spirit!
